These glassy, transparent, bladed Barytes from Peru are about as glorious as Barytes get from anywhere, and come from one small area of discovery during a construction project, and have never been found again in this quality from here. Apparently, most of them came to market through a blasting engineer, and he kept back a group of 100 pieces for a personal collection. That collection later sold to Marshall Sussman, who kept it awhile, and this was among those pieces. This is an exceptional Baryte specimen with multiple polygonal clusters, and almost windowpane-like blades. The crystals are as clear and lustrous with razor-sharp edges that are slightly beveled. There are just dozens of these blades that range from 1 to 4 cm in maximum dimension and they all average about 2 mm in thickness. They are colorless to a very pale, barely perceptible greenish-gray color and the light comes through them all around. The crystals are in excellent condition with only a bit of peripheral contacting on one end. An exceptional piece from Miraflores!
