Pech Pegmatites, Nuristan, Afghanistan
Small Cabinet, 7.6 x 2.3 x 1.9 cm
SOLD

A classic Afghani tourmaline with the combination of pastel colors that made the Pech pegmatites famous, starting in the late 1980s. However, most crystals, especially modern material, lack the combination of colors and/or the glassy luster combined with sharp terminations - and you need these 3 qualities together to really have a prize standout, a crystal better than the rest. This crystal, 63.6 grams, has stunning glassy luster on ALL faces, including the sharp termination. It shows good color gradients, and strong colors for each color in the crystal, whereas most lose the green or pink and do not have this much contrast. For these subtle reasons coming together in one perfect undamaged crystal this is, for the size, one of the better examples of this type we have seen, and is a modern classic.
