A sharp, textbook crystal of beautiful garnet from the most famous East Coast location for this material, although they were found decades ago and now we see them only occasionally in exhibits of older collections, and in books. These American garnet specimens are classics, rarely seen for sale. This is a perfectly displayed isolated crystal of 1 cm, on matrix. It looks carved but of course, is totally natural. This was part of the significant and large East Coast suite of the Shields Flynn collection. It came from the well-known East Coast thumbnail specialist Ernie Schlicter. Ernie was Shields Flynn's friend and thumbnail mentor/competitor and passed on 300 of his favorite core specimens to Shields for this collection. It is a very dramatic, special aesthetic for an American example of the species, and a fine thumbnail worthy of any competitive exhibit.
