These Ukrainian Heliodors are generally considered to set the standard for this Beryl varietal, and they certainly look gorgeous in a display case with their rich green-yellow color, brilliant luster and gemminess. What really puts them to another level, to most of us, is the intricate surface features you see, mesmerizing in detail the closer you look. However, while abundant on the market in big sizes (priced accordingly) from maybe 6-20 cm in size, miniatures and thumbnails are scarce. Maybe they are not found and I have not seen small ones in photos of the mining for that matter, or maybe they are cut for gems and not saved for collectors but try finding a fine miniature. It is nearly impossible. This one is exceptional on all counts! This gorgeous miniature also has a really sharp termination that is almost unheard of in Heliodors from this deposit. Many are heavily etched and the terminations look worn. This preserves a sharp pyramidal termination with some faces and that makes it a whole other level, and a competitive exhibit quality of specimen. This completely gem crystal has intricate and captivating, yet not overdone, etch patterns with few negative faces. It has a mass of 23.8 grams. So in summary, not only is this a rare miniature of this desirable gem species, but a fine example on merit as well. NOTE ON LOCATION NAMES: Khoroshiv Raion is the new preferred name for the old Soviet-era place of Volodarsk-Volynskii. It is one and the same locality, updated for geopolitics.
