Demantoid from Madagascar has set the new modern standard for the species, and the majority of fine specimens were mined in projects run by Dr. Federico Pezzotta, over the last ten years or so. He consults for the government, employs local mining teams, and has handled many of the great Madagascar specimens of the modern era. This cluster is a particularly choice group of large, gemmy, uniformly-colored crystals that looks good from literally any angle. It is complete 360 degrees all around, a floater. In person, you can display it as a large thumbnail or a small miniature with equal impact, and it stands horizontally or vertically - there is no right answer, subject only to personal taste. This is one of two such specimens that Pezzotta kept for showing with a display of faceted cut gemstones for sale, and which we purchased from him when we saw them used to illustrate the gems at the AGTA show in Tucson and suggested a better life for them in collector's hands!
