Cuprite var. Chalcotrichite on Copper
Ray Mine, Pinal Co., Arizona, USA

A really gorgeous nest of "wire copper", as chalcotrichite used to be known by the miners, suspended on copper crystals, from the famous Ray Mine. This is incredibly rich for the locality, and is probably a fairly old specimen. It makes for a highly unusual thumbnail, as it looks like glowing metallic red hairs! From the award-winning thumbnail collection of Sharon and William Panczner, author of the book Minerals Of Mexico, and last seen and exhibited in the 1960s.
