Miniature, 3.5 x 1.7 x 0.5 cm
Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Oshikoto Region, Namibia
Ex. Stretch Young
This gun-metal gray, beautifully striated single Chalcocite crystal from Tsumeb is just about as good as it gets from this mine where chalcocite is strangely rare despite the vast copper there. It has several smaller crystals in oriented growth along one side. This is a singular small miniature sized (toenail) Chalcocite crystal that is exceptional for the species and the locality! Both sides of the crystal have strong, geometric striations that add special character to the piece as do the smaller, elongate, pyramidal crystals present on one side. The crystal is also a floater, and few from Tsumeb can beat this one. Ex. Stretch Young collection and he got it in turn directly from the collection of African mineral and collector, Chris Johnston.
