Corundum var. Ruby
Jegdalek ruby deposit, Surobi District, Kabul, Afghanistan
Small Cabinet, 5.4 x 4.2 x 2.7 cm
SOLD

Vivid red-pink Ruby crystals sit proudly atop a white Calcite matrix from the notable Jegdalek ruby deposit in Afghanistan. Front-and-center at the top of the piece is a lustrous, translucent, 1.2cm Ruby crystal with a 5mm crystal intergrown with it on one side. Two other Ruby crystals are present and include a 7mm doubly terminated crystal and a blocky 4mm crystal, both isolated on the matrix. A trace amount of disseminated Pyrite, as <1mm cubes, is present within the Calcite. A dramatic piece with great contrast! These Ruby specimens from Jegdalek rival those from anywhere in the world for their color and form, and the main crystal on this piece is a prime example.
