Fluorapophyllite
Guanajuato, Mexico

This large shell-pink Fluorapophyllite piece from Guanajuato is super neat for what it is! The area is known for its multi-staged Calcites and bright purple Amethyst; however, the Zeolites are also fantastic. This specimen has an Amethyst matrix with large - approximately 1.5cm - pearly prismatic crystals. Except for some chatter on the edges, the crystals are pristine. This plate displays this particular crystal habit well. This is an old piece I first purchased in the driveway of my college dormitory in Houston in 1992-1993 from a travelling Mexican dealer and sold to Dave Stoudt at the time for his Mexican collection. Rare in such size!
