Apophyllite from India has poured out since the 1980s in a bewildering array of pockets and styles, and yet among that mass of specimens there are a few that stand out. To my eyes, these long, textbook crystals of pointed apophyllites, where you have giant crystals standing tall and proud, are among the best of species and the most interesting for geometry, even though they are certainly not nearly as expensive as so many other styles with small clusters of stronger green color. This piece features a dominant crystal to 11 cm, and just under 3 cm wide, perched in pink stilbite matrix. It sits dramatically as a vertical specimen for display, if propped or put in a base. Minor basalt matrix backs it and holds it together as a thin plate, and light transmits nicely through the crystal. Sharp crystals of this size, over 4 inches, were always rare and will always be rare and stand out from the crowd!
