Calcite var Manganoan with Lollingite
Huanggang Mine, Hexigten Banner, Inner Mongolia A.R., China
Cabinet, 11.0 x 8.0 x 5.7 cm

An absolutely gorgeous combination specimen, pairing a stack of pastel pink poker-chip calcite with splendent metallic lollingite crystals. The stacked calcite crystals measure to 2 cm across and each "poker chip" is just slightly offset relative to the ones above and below it resulting in an aesthetic, architectural calcite tower. Clusters of silvery gray, flattened, roughly diamond-shaped lollingite crystals decorate the base of the specimen. Lollingite is an iron arsenide and forma a series with arsenopyrite. The calcites and lollingites are well balanced on this specimen and complement one another beautifully. The calcite fluoresces red-orange under ultraviolet light. The piece is in excellent condition overall with some minor bruising and a grayish coloration to the calcite crystals on the right side of the piece. This style was found in a single small pocket in 2016, and not before or since. Unique, geometric, and colorful!
