Sphalerite on Quartz
9th of September Mine, Madan District, Rhodope Mountains, Bulgaria
Miniature, 2.8 x 2.5 x 2.3 cm
SOLD

A single, waxy-luster, translucent, greenish-yellow sphalerite crystal, measuring 2 cm across, is nicely perched on a bed of drusy, sparkling, colorless quartz crystals. Balanced and competition quality for the size (toenail or small miniature), it is a gorgeous example from older finds here of the early 2000s, now seldom seen. I picked it from a dealer's old stock because of the unusually good symmetry, isolation, and glowing color when backlit.
