Fluorite
Planggenstock, Goschen Alps, Uri, Switzerland
Small Cabinet, 6.1 x 4.4 x 2.4 cm
SOLD
This is a stacked cluster of well-formed octahedral fluorite crystals, to 2 cm across, that are lustrous and translucent. Most such pieces are rather pale to my eye, but this one exhibits a beautiful and very rich pink color. The piece is crystallized all around, though contacted in back. It is in unusually aesthetic shape, for such material. Alpine fluorites like this are surely the most coveted in the mineral collecting world. Strahlers quite literally risk their lives to get them! This piece is richly colorful and aesthetic whereas most are simply "representative" in quality. Obtained recently from a dealer who liberated it from an old European collection.
