Fluorite With Calcite on Quartz
Kara-Oba, Betpakdala Desert, Karaganda Oblast', Kazakhstan
Cabinet, 11.5 x 9.6 x 5.9 cm
SOLD
Rare locality piece! This intense deep green fluorite measures 5 cm across, and is perched on a plate of sparkling quartz. The small calcite crystals add an accent. This is from a small tungsten mine. It was worked intermittently in the past, including by the Russian government as a source for tungsten back in the 1980s. Few good minerals came out, and fewer still in this size and quality. I have not seen the like since the Fersman Museum was selling duplicates in the early 1990s and even then, such samples were generally small and not as impressive as this. Joe Budd photos.
