Fluorite
Rogerley Mine, Weardale, Durham County, England
Large Cabinet, 17.6 x 12.9 x 6.7 cm
SOLD
The Rogerley Mine has produced amazing plates of these intense green fluorites in recent years, and this is a prime example why they are so valued. For sheer color impact for the value, these English fluorites compete well with China and any other locale, but have an even more intense green color and a stunning fluorescence effect in sunlight. This large plate hosts many penetration-twinned fluorite crystals, to 3.4 cm in length, that are lustrous and translucent to transparent. The color is so rich that the cores exhibit highlights of blue even without the benefit of ultraviolet light and just show off hints of their fluorescent color even in room or halogen light. In sunlight, they are dazzling. This mine is producing now, but could stop in any year. It is the only major specimen recovery operation still going in England today.
