Fluorite (Pegmatitic)
Near Nova Era, Itabira, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Small Cabinet, 6.8 x 4.2 x 3.8 cm
SOLD
Most fluorite specimens are from "Mississippi Valley" type sedimentary deposits. However, fluorite crystals from pegmatite deposits, such as this specimen, can be spectacular and deeply colored. This is a piece from a small find brought out of Brazil in the late 1990s by a mineral dealer from whom I bought all he had. It just came back to me in a collection purchase. The color and style is unique to this day - I have not seen more. These fluorite crystals reach 3.8 cm across and are very translucent and attractive. At the time they came out, I tried to get a mine name, but it seems they were from just a small artisan mining prospect near the town of Nova Era.
