CORN13
Chalcocite
St. Ives, Consols, Cornwall, England
Miniature, 3.3 x 2.2 x 1.6 cm
Ex. G. B. Traverso
SOLD
This killer thumbnail specimen features a single, extremely well-formed, fat crystal to almost 2 cm! It is perched freestanding off of matrix of massive chalcocite. This piece has TEXTBOOK crystallography and looks so good it might as well have been carved. I haven't seen one this fine, of this habit, save in books from the early 1800s such as Sowerby and Rashleigh. This exquisite miniature is complete all around and nearly pristine....probably because it has been in a box for over 150 years, as part of the collection of Traverso, a major Italian collector of the early 1800s.
