Rutile, Hematite, Quartz
Novo Horizonte, Bahia, Northeast Region, Brazil
Thumbnail, 2.7 x 2.4 x 1.7 cm
This is a superb rutilated "star" in a thumbnail-sized specimen. The star is complete, symmetric, and very balanced. It is oriented outward to the display angle for the crystal as a whole, and needs no polishing to see it (usually the quartz must be at least lightly polished to see such stars inside, and its rare that they orient to a good display angle with the crystal they form in, as well). Note the small hematite crystal acting as the stellar nucleus, at center. Weighs 69 carats or about 14 grams.
