Microcline (Var: Amazonite)
Thumbnail, 2.0 x 1.6 x 1.5 cm
R. A. Kosnar claim, Yucca Hill, Steven's Ranch, Lake George, Park Co., Colorado, USA
This is a classic specimen from one of the most storied and well known districts in Colorado. The pegmatites near the Lake George area of Colorado have produced what collectors and dealers know to be the finest Amazonite specimens from the standpoint of color, quality, wonderful display specimens and excellent associations. This particular specimen is a beautiful little thumbnail. It is a sharp, well-formed, blue-green color Amazonite crystal with a distinctive and highly sought after white "cap." The crystal is slightly translucent around the edges, which is not seen in all Amazonite crystals. This specimen was collected over 30 years ago (August 1976), when Richard Kosnar found some of the finest color Amazonite from Colorado extant.
