Hausmannite on Andradite Garnet
Wessels Mine, Kalahari Manganese Fields, South Africa
Miniature, 5.5 x 4.2 x 3.6 cm
A dramatic and very large single hausmannite crystal showing intricate stepped growth on all faces, that measures 4 cm on edge, is the visual center here. It is an impressive specimen made pretty by the accenting garnet along the sides. In person, it can be displayed either vertically as shown, or horizontally, to equal effect. I should add that this style of hausmannite rarely has good luster but we do not have that problem has lots of sparkle for a black mineral!
