Pyromorphite
Mina de San Francisco, Sonora, Mexico
Cabinet, 10.1 x 6.0 x 5.2 cm
Ex. Dr. Gary Hansen

This specimen is very important because although pyromorphite was reported historically from the mine, it seems to have been from a small vein in the upper layers and no such specimens have been found in any of the recent explorations here that I am aware of. I have seen in the past only a few pathetic specimens of poor quality. Hansen was very proud of this one and thought it to be "major"...I am inclined to agree. Luckily, it also happens to be quite attractive! The yellow color is distinct from other Mexican localities which produce more of a green-hued pyromorphite: in person it is very attractive, a rich mustard color.
