This dramatic piece features sparkling, lustrous, pristine yellow calcites perched on a carpet of sparkling, chatoyant malachite. Prosper Williams sold it in 1976 to the Los Angeles County Museum, from whence it was traded to the Marion Stuart Collection in a rare deaccession in 1977. It was the Sussman's first choice specimen when the Stuart collection was broken up at Tucson in 2000, and they waited in line to be the very first people into Dave Bunk's booth at the opening of the show. I know this because myself, Steve Neely, Steve Smale, and a number of others also really wanted this specimen at the time and we were all waiting in line BEHIND Marshall's bald head to get it on the offchance he did not (grumble...). 16 x 7.5 x 8 cm This Photo was Mindat.org Photo of the Day - 1st Sep 2006
