One of the highlights of the Ruben Avila collection was this spectacularly lustrous adamite specimen, which is so lustrous and saturated with color that it glows from across the room! The specimen is from the special pocket zone of the early to mid 1980s that produced what are still regarded as best of species material for combination of color, luster, and the thick pinwheel growths. Note the interesting spray of sharp crystals shooting out of the center of the top pinwheel, towards the viewer - highly unusual. It is a heavy, dense specimen, complete all around. If you see the photo, it might look like "just another adamite" but it is not - it is an elevated level of impact reserved for the quality of the very top specimens. We have seen literally thousands of specimens - Rob in particular was around in the mid-1980s when they were coming out, and already close to the source dealers even as a young teen at the time. Most were lacking in color or luster, or aesthetics. Here, however, we have all quality attributes in one borderline large-miniature / small cabinet sized piece. It really stands above most. This really was one of the top few specimens in the Avila collection. Ruben Avila, based in Mexico City, had one of the top collections assembled by a Mexican collector at the time these things were coming out, and was a major scout and buyer for Ojuela material in the most important decades of the 1980s-2010 or so. He was the main scout and Mexico based associate for the late Mike New, owner of Top Gem Minerals. He took the access and money flowing through him and used it to carefully build a VERY choice collection of minerals! We bought the entire collection in COVID years, and are slowly putting it to market now. So again, all I wish to point out in saying all of this is, this guy had real access, and a really good eye, and was on the spot when these came out. THIS IS THE ONE HE KEPT, for nearly 40 years, in his own collection...
