A stunning neon specimen of such saturated green color as is almost unknown elsewhere in the worldwide mineral kingdom, this is a vesuvianite crystal of a very rare sort, with color caused by minute amounts of chromium in the mix. It is a world class thumbnail specimen of a competitive level for the species, combining rare quality levels in the shape and form, the perfection, the luster, and that it is complete all around. There are so few of these, in this size — perhaps only a couple of dozen fine crystals, and this was said to be one of the best of them in the size range. From the competitive thumbnail collection of Irv Brown, purchased from an older source we do not know. These are not recent — they came out in the 1980s. In person, this is truly something to see — and leaps out of any thumbnail case or drawer for the shocking color.
