Galena in good quality is actually fairly rare (at least today) from the Naica mines, and this specimen features a nicely balanced galena perched on gem, sparkling fluorite. The galena formed as lustrous, silvery metallic crystals in clusters to 4 cm across. The fluorite is so gemmy and bright, that the contrast of color and luster really makes the piece pop in person. This is classic 1980s material, seldom seen on the market today. Like most of the Avila collection of Mexican minerals, he pursued miniatures and small cabinets in excellent condition AND aesthetics - as is this. Note that you can display this specimen horizontally with the two species side by side and in such nice balance and harmony, sitting on a flat bottom, and it would be 360 degrees complete all around! However, it ALSO looks good vertically, with the complete cluster of fluorite below, and the galena mass perched atop like a hat. In that case, it is complete on the display face and sides, and presents with the galena dominant. Some minor calcite coats the back. This is truly an old classic style, for each species, rarely seen together.
