Sharply crystallized bismuth from the old ore mines of the Erzgebirge region of Germany are generally considered the best fine crystals of the native element out of all locales. Most specimens have massive ore, with some sharp crystals or loose crystals with no matrix. This, however, is a gorgeous small cabinet specimen of competitive quality, with a literal "waterfall" of sharp bismuth crystals cascading down the face of a crystallized calcite matrix. With sharp, hoppered crystals to nearly 3 cm, this is a significant old classic and a significant example of crystallized bismuth. It is one of the finest examples we have seen for sale of this material in a long time, comparable to what is in only a few major collections or institutional holdings.
