An amazing large cabinet specimen of deeply saturated cobalt blue Fluorite with large intergrown cubic crystals resting on a matrix of clear-white Fluorite with some minor purple Fluorite from the 2019-2020 finds at Poggio Balate in Sicily. The Fluorite is defined by its partial cubic development showing a limited number of well developed crystal faces for each cube rising up out of a sea of interlocking Fluorites. The main large central Fluorite cube is 4.0 cm x 3.9 cm x 3.2 cm. These transparent cubes have wonderful zoning consisting of the initial phase of clear to white Fluorite and the final phase of blue Fluorite resulting in thick 4mm intense blue phantoms. There is a preferential white mineralization that is partially coating one face on each cube. Some contacting around the front and back edges with some minor bruising to a couple of crystals is noted. The remaining cubic crystals are in very good condition. The blue hue varies depending on lighting but shows it’s most brilliant color under cool LED lights. Purple fluorescence can be seen under UV lights. An outstanding large specimen with great color from an uncommon locality.
