SUPERB in every way, this classic, old-time Gold specimen is from historic Verespatak (Rosia Montana), Romania and probably dates back nearly 200 years. This great miniature is composed of crystallized leaflike Gold, up to 1.5 cm long, that is stout, lustrous and textured. There is a rich bed of overlapping, horizontal crystals along the matrix, as well as a few vertical leaves that add even more to the character and aesthetics. Some of the horizontal crystals have ultra-straight edging down the middle that is indicative of sharp spinel-law twinning, and is a well-developed crystalline structure. Either way, it is quite notable. Other 'leaves' are actually edged with microcrystalline Gold, which is both fascinating and beautiful on a small scale. Old material from the 1800s, this Gold is exemplary for a mine that was worked by the Romans, and it is a terrific Gold, period! Old label included.
