This thin, delicate formation of gold is still partially embedded in an encasement of quartz that now serves as a natural pedestal of matrix for display, a typical association from this classic locality. From old mining in the 1980s, this sparkling piece presents well from both sides. Most recently, this was in the Kurt Hefendehl collection, a well-known collector in Europe who started collecting in his teens. Specimens like this generally have no ties in pricing to their actual value of gold, as gold specimens found in crystallized or leaf form are rarer than nuggets, and significantly more rare than the processed ore smelted to make gold bars. This specimen is a particularly elegant example that occupies space as a full miniature but masses very little and is valued for its elegance. 11 grams.
