This is an insanely rare locality piece from the noted gem pegmatites in the DRC, and most were cut into gemstones from this particular find. The coloration of this single crystal from the Congo is unique with a darker magenta brown base that quickly transitions to pale pink with an orange tint, especially when compared to the typical pinks and greens from Pakistan, Afghanistan or Brazil much less Africa! It is completely gem throughout save a small veil of internal crazing. The base has a clean, even break and the termination is pyramidal with a glassy luster. Crystal faces and edges are sharp with only a minor amount of microabrasions along the edges locally. A very nice single crystal with sublime color from Goma, DRC. Mass is 27.1grams. Ex Irv Brown collection.
