Until they were found at the Yaogangxian, large crystals of Bournonite such as this were rare and often fantastically expensive. This mine had a heyday about 15-18 years ago, and it has been relatively dry again for this species until recently. This new find is quite unusual with huge, elongated crystals such as this - one of the larger found in late 2019. This densely-striated crystal has good metallic luster and smooth, matte terminations at one end, while the opposite end is a contact. There is some wear, to be expected as brittle as Bournonite is, and yet this cabinet-sized crystal presents dramatically when in a case and you can see the shocking size - 4 inches! While many Bournonites have a cogwheel twin habit, this elongated crystal is untwinned.
