Fluorapophyllite on Stilbite
Jalgaon, Maharashtra, India
Small Cabinet, 7.6 x 7.0 x 4.8 cm

Geometric sharpness and an unusual high level of "sparkliness" take this Apophyllite specimen from the level of average specimen to a "jewel" among equals. It just sparkles, for lack of a better word. Apophyllite from India is of course rather common, but truly exceptional specimens are not. This is one of those that stand out in a crowd for the architecture, sharp form and contrast, and overall quality. Several, glassy and gemmy, elongated, pastel-green fluorapophyllite crystals to 4 cm in length are superbly emplaced upon lustrous, white stilbite crystals, to 3 cm in length. Very showy, pristine, and dramatic in person. It is hard in photos to convey both the 3-dimensionality AND the luster of the piece. Better in person. This was a one-off specimen I picked up in India, in mid-October 2018.
