Gold
Cavnic, Maramures, Romania
Small Cabinet, 5.8 x 4.3 x 3.1 cm
SOLD

A solid mass of lustrous, rich, buttery, "sponge gold" - soft crystals intermeshed with one another, is 5 cm across. This is monstrous size for the locality! The gold is dramatically displayed and is superbly emplaced on a matrix of massive white quartz. Gold specimens from Cavnic are generally subservient to those from Verespatak, but this wonderful specimen is a rare display-quality exception. Minor sulfides are also included in the matrix. From a small find brought out at the Munich show of 2016. Mass is 69 grams, of which we presume approximately half to 2/3 weight to be gold by guesstimate.
