Silver rope on matrix
Kongsberg, Buskerud, Norway
Small Cabinet, 6.9 x 4.1 x 2.4 cm
SOLD

This is an elegant Matrix small cabinet piece with iconic form, showing a single isolated "rope" which is thick and robust - you almost never see them on matrix, let alone up and robust, and perched perfectly like this! It is superbly balanced. It is clearly Kongsberg, and not German in origin, with this rope style. The fat rope is about 1 cm thick in most spots and 6 cm in length - optimally sized on this well-trimmed matrix to be a really exceptional, unique Kongsberg matrix specimen for the collector who does not like the usual "clunky" or massive look of so many rope silvers from here, if they have any matrix at all. It displays well 360 degrees all around, as you see in the photos. It is simply 'great" for the size range, price aside. An old specimen, surely, though it has lost any provenance, typical of pieces one sees in the old books from the 1700s and 1800s. The silver is firmly connected to the matrix. No wiggling, and no repairs.
