Tourmaline (Var: Achroite)
Nuristan Province (Nurestan; Nooristan), Afghanistan
Thumbnail, 2.6 x 0.3 x 0.3 cm
The tourmaline moniker "achroite" designates the very rare COLORLESS variety - so common in other crystals, but extremely unusual in tourmalines! This crystal starts out a delicate pink; then there is a band of bright grass green in the middle. Then, more than half of the upper part of the crystal is glass-clear! The whole crystal is gemmy from top to bottom.
