Borieva mine, Madan ore field, Rhodope Mts, Smolyan Oblast, Bulgaria
Small Cabinet, 8.0 x 6.2 x 5.4 cm
From a zinc-mining operation in Borieva comes this huge and very sharp crystal of sphalerite, measuring 6 cm in each direction. It sits on a small portion of sulfide matrix, and is complete all the way around. There are sharp, lustrous, flashing faces everywhere. We shot the crystal under strong light so you can see that it is a transparent coffee-to-red color through and through. Ex. Nowakowski Collection.
