This is a huge specimen of solid native silver out of the Hauck Collection, from the classic Cobalt silver mining locality in Canada. By 1905 there were sixteen mines in the area, and in 1911 production exceeded 30,000,000 ounces. Cobalt was the biggest silver mining camp in the world at that point. Mining slowed down after the 1930s, picked up again in the 1950s, and then slowly dropped off; there is no mining going on there today. Here you have a heavy, intricate boulder of a spongy texture that is all silver, weighing one pound, ten ounces. Here and there you can see traces of wires and crystallization.
