Cassiterite
Viloco Mine (Araca mine), Loayza Province, La Paz Department, Bolivia
Cabinet, 10.0 x 6.4 x 4.0 cm

Bolivia has probably produced more tin than any other country in the world. The great tin mines at Viloco (sometimes called Araca) have produced some of the most magnificent Cassiterite specimens extant. This particular specimen consists of many fine, sharp, highly lustrous, dark brown to black color, gemmy, cyclic twinned crystals measuring up to 1.0 cm oriented into a beautiful crystallized "mound." This is a very attractive piece and one of the better ones that I have seen from the locality. Admittedly there is some very minor damage to the specimen, but it is still a great display piece and this classic material from Viloco is simply not seen for sale in today's market. This is a great piece with big sparkling attractive crystals. 10.0 x 6.4 x 4.0cm
