Crystals of gemmy to translucent tourmaline from the amazing, world-surprising finds of tourmaline in 2020-21, from this region near Goma (where a volcano recently went up). These crystals are not noted for one single style, termination, or color - although there are several combinations we will forever associate with the find as contemporary classics. Rather, the find overall will become known for the shocking color variety within the discovery zone, and unusual color patterns. They generally have strong colors and sharp terminations, and are clearly different from anything we have seen from other locations, for elbaite tourmalines. Per Wikipedia: The major tourmaline species are elbaite, liddicoatite, dravite, uvite, and schorl. Most gem tourmalines are elbaites, which are rich in sodium, lithium, aluminum, and sometimes—but very rarely—copper. They occur in granite-containing pegmatites, which are rare igneous rocks.
