Franklinite with Rhodonite and Calcite
Franklin Mine, Franklin, Sussex Co., New Jersey, USA
Small Cabinet, 9.2 x 8.3 x 8.2 cm
Ex. George Elling
SOLD

Here is a very showy and colorful Sterling Hill Mine combination specimen of well-formed, black Franklinite crystals with pink-red Rhodonite crystals and white Calcite. The big, rose-pink Rhodonite crystals are up to three inches in length and well-formed, with a large cluster of black, almost sub-metallic Franklinite crystals of which most are well-formed and modified crystals to one inch across set off by rhombohedral cleavage clusters of coarse, bright white Calcite. Needless to say the Calcite fluoresces a bright red under short wave UV. One of the larger Franklinites exhibit excellent octahedral and cube forms. The piece is colorful with great contrast and is well-balanced. This is just an excellent and classic, showy combination piece from Franklin at a price that does not break banks. Historic, rare material in combination - there are few to be had. From the important East Coast and Franklin collections of George Elling.
