A remarkable gem crystal, completely transparent, of the rare gem species diaspore. This is apparently the subject of some debate in the gem world as dealers and gem sellers are christening it as a new gem varietal called Zultanite, and other names I have heard floated about as well. Yet, it is all diaspore, and from this important old classic locality known since prehistoric times. Today, it may be the source of several trademarked new gem species but more importantly for us, a renewed focus on careful mining and preserving crystals when they find any. It produced in the old days before the 1960s, went quiet for awhile, and has been producing again in recent years. Most diaspore specimens in recent production are twinned. This, however, is a true textbook crystal, sharp and untwinned (old or new, who can say).
