A bright and beautiful gold with great luster and form! Complete all around, it is a floater "leaf" of crystallized gold. This is a full thumbnail with a great presence from this historic American locality, often associated with the Gold Rush era specimens. From the collection of Shields Flynn, built up over 60 years. Few good thumbnail specimens of this material even exist...and many are simply small pieces, without being elegant and standing on their own. This is a superior example for the size and style, often called natural Gold Leaf by the miners. It either came out in the 1800s, or from holes and reworkings of areas dug in the 1800s in a few later finds.
