There aren't many common species where one single location amongst all actually produces specimens with a look so unique and beautiful as to dominate the species among collectors, and very little is a match for the great Smithsonites from Kelly. The unique blue color simply draws the eye - for over 100 years, these have had pride of place in most worldwide mineral collections. Kelly Mine is certainly the most famous locality for botryoidal Smithsonite and they are simply iconic in style and color. This exceptional small cabinet piece has the distinctive, translucent blue-green color, almost wet luster, and distinctive botryoidal habit that are classic for the locality. The large, elongate, satin lustered botryoidal surface certainly makes this piece stand out and it is in excellent condition as well. The thick band of Smithsonite covers a small, angular piece of light colored matrix that can be seen on the bottom. A choice Kelly Mine Smithsonite!
