Blue Smithsonites from the Kelly Mine are among the most famous of all USA classic mineral discoveries and are revered by all collectors. This miniature exhibits the prime "Kelly-blue" color and the archetypal botryoidal form consisting of over a dozen, 0.4 to 1.3 cm spheres. The individual botryoides display a silky, shimmering luster and they are all relatively well isolated on the piece with good three-dimensionality. It is a uniquely aesthetic and well composed piece. Ex. Norm and Roz Pellman collection, and then the Vasco Trancoso Collection in Lisbon for the last 12 years. While small Smithsonites are common, this has a special character. It has always been memorable, which is why the Pellmans, well known for their persnickety care in purchase, bought it and owned it probably for decades themselves (#690 in the collection).
