A choice miniature displaying several sharp, elongated scalenohedral crystals of Smithsonite on matrix: These attenuated scalenohedra are a very rare style, known only from Tsumeb, and even there form just a few pockets. The gemmy, very pale champagne colored Smithsonites have a unique glassy luster as well as having attractive, faint, diagonal striations on some prism faces. A V-shaped pair of crystals adorn one end of the piece and they are 2.3 and 2 cm in length with sharply pointed terminations and adds to the nice aesthetics of this fine miniature. A half dozen smaller crystals grace the piece adjacent to the two prominent crystals and all but one are terminated. The Smithsonites show well on the brown, iron stained matrix. Ex. Rock Currier collection. An exceptional miniature sized example of a rare habit of this important species.
