A thick, textbook Elbaite Tourmaline crystal from the Little Three Mine from San Diego County in Southern California, from Bill Larson's private collection. This is a sharp, dark translucent green Tourmaline with fantastic luster and well-defined faces, and razor-sharp edges. The prism faces are striated as typical for Tourmaline and the perfect, flat termination has great luster and also has a 1.2 cm, silvery Muscovite crystal sticking right out of the top! This locality was first prospected in the 1940s and then later developed in the 1970s and worked intermittently since then. This handsome Tourmaline is an excellent example from the locality. Only contacted at the bottom where it was removed from the pegmatite pocket. Old material, seldom seen, especially with any kind of reliable provenance. Bill is essentially the King of Southern California mineral collecting, and so the provenance is important here.
