Sperrylite is the most "sexy" crystallized platinum species we know of (to date), with sharp and beautiful crystals of high luster coming from a very few localities worldwide (Canada, South Africa, and Russia) over the last 100 years. However, contemporary specimens are uncommon and do not match the old classics of the past. This is a fine thumbnail showing an unusually cubic-dominant habit when we usually see more complexly formed crystals (sperrylite is in the isometric crystal class and so it can have a variety of shapes). A simple cube, which is the underlying pattern here, is actually rarer than the more complex habits we have seen from all the sperrylite locales, and that is why this crystal is so special, aside from its obvious sharpness.
