Euclase (important thumbnail)
Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Thumbnail, 1.8 x 1.6 x 0.8 cm
SOLD

This captivating blue Euclase thumbnail is a special and unique color type for Ouro Preto and combined with luster and sharp form this makes these rare gem crystals among best of species. These lovely blue Euclases have rarely come out of the Topaz mines here, and only in very small quantities. This Euclase is transparent and the blue color is strong, and slightly more intense down the center of the crystal. Barely discernible, parallel striations are present on both the prism and pyramidal faces. The combination of its luster and the striations just make this piece dazzle! The blue hue is just stunning in a way that euclase from other locations cannot match. The crystal is 15 carats or 3 grams and was purchased directly from a Colombian source in approximately 2010 shortly after it was mined. This pocket, to this day, remains one of the great pockets found of the species, at least for those who want the finest thumbnail examples of this rarity. A true specialist gem crystal, and from the place I would value most if I was comparing to other euclases. A requested feature in the 2022 "What's New in Minerals" article in The Mineralogical Record.
