This is a very large and attractive crystal of tourmaline from the Santa Rosa Mine in Brazil, featuring a lustrous and translucent "skin" with glistening green colors. The composite crystal transitions from a translucent to transparent green through much of the body of the crystal to a darker green near the top. It consists of dozens of glassy, pencil-like, individual, vibrant, gem green Tourmaline crystals in slightly divergent, parallel growth, some with sub-terminations all around it. Much of the main part of the crystal exhibits an overall chatoyant effect along their length. There are jackstraw clusters of thinner Elbaite crystals around the base as an accent, and locally around the columnar portion of the big crystal. Many of the smallest-crystals aren't terminated and the termination at the very top of the piece is contacted/flattish, but its not readily noticeable because the overall impression of the crystal is so dramatic when you look at it in a case, and at eye level or higher. This big crystal weighs in at 900 grams, nearly a kilo! It comes with a custom engraved acrylic base.
