This spikey, colorful, hedgehog-like piece from the Leiping mine is from what has to be the most famous single calcite find of the modern era in China (late 1990s). These sharp Calcite crystal groups came out decades ago and are now hard to find. Amongst the 1 to 2.5 cm, razor-sharp spikes, sits a pristine, jewel-like, sharp twinned calcite measuring 2.5 cm from tip-to-tip across the top. The twin along with all of its companion Calcites on the piece have just a touch of Hematite dusting them just under the surface, not unlike some of the old English Calcites and results in a very aesthetic effect. The spiky Calcites are all steeply terminated scalenohedrons with sharply defined edges and the majority have their points intact. These twinned crystals remain one-of-a-kind and uniquely desirable. This specimen is very attractive and sharp all around.
